Updated May 2025
2025-26 Seniors only
Important Note: Only seniors may use a BYOD device for the 2025-2026 school year. Grades PK-11 will be furnished with a school-owned device. Seniors have the option to have a school-owned device. Please contact the Technology Office if you wish to have a school-furnished device for your Senior year.
Operating System - Windows 11 64-bit Home (No S Mode) or Professional for compatibility with Holy Cross wireless network, software, and services. MacBooks, Chromebooks, and iPads are not device options. Current students who have a MacBook may continue to use that device. If a current student needs to replace their MacBook, we ask that you purchase a lower-cost Windows device.
Please be sure the computer has all the latest Manufacturer and Operating System updates.
Battery life - 6+ hours recommended. Batteries cannot be charged on campus for safety considerations.
Screen Size - A 12-inch minimum screen is required.
Keyboard/Mouse - An attachable keyboard is required. When deciding, please remember that students will write papers in most classes. A wireless mouse is also recommended.
Webcam - All devices are required to have an integrated webcam capable of sending or receiving video resolution of 720p or higher.
Processor - Equivalent to Intel i5 or i7.
Memory - 8GB is the minimum recommendation, with 12GB or 16GB suggested but not required. 16GB of RAM is the minimum recommended for students who plan to enroll in AutoCAD classes.
Internal Storage - A minimum of 128GB SSD (Solid-State Drive).
Wireless Network Adapter - 802.11ax or 802.11ac is required. No cellular connection is allowed.
Software - The device must be running licensed versions of all software, particularly the operating system and anti-virus software. Student devices must have anti-virus software that has real protection enabled on the laptop before coming on campus.
Warranty - Consider purchasing an extra/extended warranty for accidental damage protection or to reduce further repair costs. It is important to know if the warranty work will be performed locally or if the device will need to be shipped for repairs.
Insurance - You will need to check with your insurance company to determine the available options.
Repairs - Students must repair cracked screens and damaged or broken keyboards.
Loaners - A very limited number of laptops will be available for BYOD devices being repaired.
